Why Target Truckers?

State and federal mandatory emission reductions for heavy-duty truck engines won't take effect for several years, but our region needs heavy-duty emission reductions now. Mobile sources, including on-road heavy-duty trucks plus off-road equipment such as agricultural and construction equipment, contribute more than 70 percent of the pollution in our region. California's standards for cars are some of the most stringent in the nation and our region relies on those standards, along with the state's Smog Check program, to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. More needs to be done when it comes to heavy-duty vehicles.

Nobody likes dirty air. However, we recognize that upgrading a heavy-duty engine to reduce emissions is a costly endeavor. SECAT helps by funding upgrades and exchanges for a range of heavy-duty vehicles, including:

  • Refuse trucks
  • Delivery vehicles
  • Cement trucks
  • Freight-haulers
  • Practically any vehicle over 14,000 lbs.
  • Transit and school buses are also eligible for the program
